Dave Foraker - Singer, Songwriter & Storyteller Influences Sing 'em a song... tell 'em a story... The Journey Continues! CD's Stuff that's been written.... & where I've performed... Repertoire

After high school, I hit the road with a series of rock bands... but my real "schooling" in music took place backing up several touring R&B acts. Rufus Thomas, The Coasters, The Drifters, Percy Sledge, Spyder Turner, Maurice Williams, Marcel Evans & Clifford Curry were the "professors" under whose tutelage, I learned the "art of entertaining".  And, if these talented entertainers were "professors" in my world, the main influence was undoubtedly supplied by Ray Charles & Albert King. In the course of my life, I have bought, listened to & studied almost every recording by these two artists... & I saw both of them numerous times in concert. Their music, their subtleties & strengths... & their ability to weave a story through their music have greatly influenced my music.

In 1984, I was offered some gigs at piano bars. Six nights a week, four hours a night... just me & a piano! I got so sick of the hundred or so songs in my repertoire quickly... & began searching the archives for the classics... standards, R&B, blues, country... I would try almost any song... once! Now, I have an active repertoire of over 500 songs, with almost any song available with prior notice. It was during this period that I really discovered my music, my style... & my voice!
